Putting Public Documents into Plain Language
Description

You’ve heard about plain language, but do you actually know how to use it? There are six principles of plain language as a communications tool. And as government communicators, we’re required by law to use these principles to put public documents into plain language (California Government Code §6219). In this session, you’ll learn the core principles of plain language to improve your calls to action and reach wider audiences, regardless of race, education, socioeconomics, or native language. Then, you’ll get hands-on experience on applying these principles to measurably shrink your messages’ grade levels and increase readability, without “dumbing it down.”
