As a seasoned professional with a diverse background spanning private, nonprofit and public sectors, Katie Martel brings a unique blend of expertise to every role she undertakes. From the start of her career, Katie was recognized for her innate passion for customer service and her keen ability to forge productive partnerships. Currently, Katie serves the City of Alhambra as its sole Grants Specialist where she works across all City departments to drive positive change and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Alhambra. Katie secured millions of dollars in essential funding for a wide variety of needs, including homeless outreach initiatives, renovations of local parks, stormwater capture projects, and other capital improvements.
Previously, Katie worked for the nation’s largest county, the County of Los Angeles, where she played a pivotal role as public information officer for the Department of Public Health, working on high-profile health emergencies such as the Aliso Canyon Gas Leak and Exide Battery Plant lead poisoning. Katie also crafted creative content to communicate complex topics into meaningful messages that encourage individuals to take action to prevent disease, protect their health and improve their communities. At the Department of Parks and Recreation, Katie led the public information and communications team for a vast network of nearly 200 parks spanning 500 square miles. During the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, she provided strategic counsel on internal and external communications, ensuring vital information reached the public effectively.
