Clear and concise communications during a crisis is necessary, and doing so quickly is critical. But what if your “communications team” is a team of one? This session explores how smaller cities and agencies can proactively build Joint Information Center (JIC) capacity by tapping into the hidden talents, skills and enthusiasm of non-communications staff across departments.Mary Haddad, Communications Manager for the City of Agoura Hills, will share how she identified potential JIC contributors citywide, from executive assistants with writing skills to Community Services staff who know their way around social, and turned them into a cross-departmental communications network ready to respond. She’ll walk through how she developed and delivered training sessions, what the reaction was from staff and how the experience built both confidence and capability throughout the organization.Attendees will leave with a practical roadmap for scaling JIC preparedness in small organizations through collaboration and resourcefulness.
