Alanah Grant serves as the Equity Officer for the City of Long Beach, bringing the perspective of a second-generation Long Beach native and a steadfast commitment to advancing equity for communities historically relegated to the margins.
With more than a decade of experience across the nonprofit and public sectors, Alanah has partnered with diverse communities to shape policy and design, implement, and administer programs spanning racial and gender equity, youth development, civic engagement, basic needs, and economic inclusion. Her notable contributions include the 2020 participatory framework for racial reconciliation, the creation of a civilian crisis response team, the establishment of the City’s first-ever Commission for Women and Girls, and a robust capacity-building portfolio of trainings and workshops that operationalize equity across municipal systems.
As Equity Officer, Alanah champions the City’s transformation efforts by centering community voice, implicating institutional history, and integrating restorative practices into systems change and governance. Her work translates equity values into actionable policies, practices, and accountability across municipal government.
