Speaker Bio
Cheryl Hurd is a retired 4-time Emmy award-winning reporter for NBC Bay Area. With a focus on local news in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cheryl covered a wide range of stories, from breaking news, community events along with national stories in her 30 plus year career. She was the first to report on the BALCO Steroids Scandal, a story that rocked the sports world. The fallout from that story still has implications today. Her reporting showcased her dedication to providing accurate and impactful
journalism to her viewers. In 2023, Cheryl changed careers, and is now the Public Affairs Manager for the Alameda County Fire Department. Her job is to develop, implement and maintain district-wide community engagement, to increase public awareness and educational programs to the half a million people the department serves. Cheryl’s reporting experience has helped her transition into the role as a
manager. She is a Bay Area native and attended college at California State East Bay in Hayward, California. Making a transition into Public Affairs for ACFD is giving her the opportunity to
highlight what firefighters do, and she can report on some of the work community members are doing in Alameda County. When off duty, Cheryl loves hanging out with dogs, hiking, and working with people.
