Speaker Bio
Tess serves as Community & Economic Development Director for the City of San Marcos, an innovative Southern California city that operates more like a business than a bureaucracy. San Marcos is a leader in economic development, public safety, infrastructure, recreation, industry and cultural programs.
In her role as Community & Economic Development Director, strategic collaboration with the San Marcos business community is at the forefront to help attract, retain and expand businesses. San Marcos offers ‘concierge’ services to help businesses thrive including permitting and development assistance, business liaison services, pre-development meetings and site-selection assistance. She is proud of this unique approach, which fosters successful civic/private partnerships.
Tess also oversees both the City of San Marcos’ affordable housing program and its comprehensive communications and public information program, which includes media relations, social media, website management and community engagement.
Prior to joining the City of San Marcos in 2015, Tess served as Executive Director for the Cardiff 101 Main Street Program, where she spearheaded its accreditation as a California Main Street Community.
Tess graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Claremont McKenna College. When she’s not busy empowering the San Marcos business community, you’ll likely find her adoring her daughter, Thea, and her miniature Australian Shepherd, Sydney, or exploring North San Diego County’s great local hiking trails and dining scene.
