In the past decade, the number of new water reuse projects in California increased significantly. Climate change and drought have impacted the reliability of water resources throughout the state and agencies from Northern California to San Diego have embarked on efforts to use purified recycled water as an additional water source for their region. It takes extensive outreach and communications programs to gain public acceptance of recycled water, from development to implementation and beyond. Despite this progress, there was no platform for communications professionals to discuss their work and learn from each other. So in 2018 a few of these professionals got together, coordinated with WateReuse California, and formed the WateReuse California Communications Collaborative Group. The group’s goal is to provide a forum to discuss and collaborate on potable water reuse communications, connect with each other, share resources, address challenges and discuss issues on the horizon for reuse projects. Join us for a fun and interactive session about the good, bad and ugly when it comes to outreaching complex subjects like purified recycled water and how to problem solve.
